Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) was recently recognised as the first housing association to make a significant contribution to the construction industry’s commitment to CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) when divisional director (Asset Management) Simon Brown was presented with a gold certificate by CSCS chief executive Brian Adams. CSCS gold certificates are awarded to organisations when more than 75% of their onsite workers hold CSCS cards.
Simon Brown thinks that CSCS is the best way for contractors to prove its workers are competent in their occupations, have health and safety awareness and also provides them with a commercial advantage.
He comments: “LHT is committed to improving skill levels. We are insisting that all new contractors we work with have a CSCS carded workforce and that all the workers from our existing contractors show evidence that they are progressing towards holding appropriate CSCS cards.”
Having already ensured that all its own site based staff obtained the Gold CSCS card, LHT is implementing CSCS as a mandatory requirement for all contractors. It is believed that LHT is the first housing association to introduce mandatory CSCS membership.
Simon Brown, continues: “CSCS is an important element of our overall health and safety management system and will form one of our checks on site safety and impacts upon operatives’ ability to provide a quality service to our customers.”
Liverpool Housing Trust is part of the Vicinity Group which also includes Cobalt Housing, Beechwood Ballantyne, Atrium City Living and Jigsaw Neighbourhood Solutions. The group owns and manages over 16,000 homes across Merseyside.
