Lightning Conductor Engineers and Steeplejacks: are you ready?

Published: March 22, 2016

A new requirement is in place for operatives renewing their Lightning Conductor Engineer or Steeplejack CSCS card.

From 2 November 2015, it became a requirement for any operative renewing a blue Skilled Worker or gold Advanced Craft/ Supervisory Lightning Conductor Engineer or Steeplejack card to successfully complete a relevant one-day training course.

Employers and operatives should make sure that they allow ample time to attend the Working at Height for Lightning Conductor Engineers or Anchors for Steeplejacks one-day courses. Training can be undertaken up to two years before the CSCS card renewal date and full details of training providers are available on the ATLAS website. The Steeplejack and Lightning Protection Training Group (SLPTG) also organises regular training for its members and further information can be found on the SLPTG website.

Anyone who has held their Skilled Worker or Advanced Craft card in these occupations and is either renewing, or applying for a new card having fallen out of the renewal period, will be required to provide the certificate from the relevant training course with their CSCS card application form, confirmation that they have passed the Working at Heights Health, Safety and Environment Test and the card fee. For further information please visit the ATLAS website.
