  • Why has the General Construction Operations occupation title changed to Groundworker?
  • In April 2019, CSCS received notification of the closure of the General Construction Operations title from the standard setting body and this was replaced with the title of Groundworker.

The industry working group that reviewed the qualification felt the Groundworker title better reflected the work being undertaken by these operatives and that General Construction Operations was too vague, leading to confusion on site.

In December 2019, CSCS decided to only recognise this occupation and remove the occupation of General Construction Operations for all card applications, whether achieved before or after the change, to allow consistency and transparency for this occupation.

To clarify, this change affects both renewal and new applications, with all applicants now given the occupation title of Groundworker on their card.
