Clarification on Occupational Work Supervision NVQ

CSCS have issued clarification on using the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ to apply for a CSCS card

CSCS has been contacted by a number of applicants who are having problems applying for a CSCS card using the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ.

The Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ requires candidates to demonstrate relevant verifiable experience and competence in their occupational area. This requirement is detailed in the National Occupational Standard for the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ.

However, it has come to our attention that this requirement has not been consistently followed for a number of years. CSCS is now issuing clarification on the requirements for the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ.

A cardholder wishing to apply for a Gold Supervisor card using the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ must provide evidence to demonstrate relevant verifiable experience and competence in their occupational area (for example: qualification to NVQ Level 2 or SVQ at SCQF Level 5 or professional discussion or portfolio evidence of previous experience) prior to being registered for the Occupational Work Supervision qualification.

Please note that CSCS will only accept evidence demonstrating competence in occupations covered by CSCS. A full list of occupations CSCS will accept evidence for can be accessed here.

CSCS recognises that a number of applicants have already undertaken the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ under the impression that this qualification alone would satisfy the requirements of the Gold Supervisor card. As we do not wish to disadvantage these applicants, CSCS will accept a number of alternatives to apply for this occupation.

CSCS will accept:

  • A CSCS Skilled card in an accepted trade
  • A letter from an Awarding Body clearly outlining which trade the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ was assessed against
  • A letter from a Training Provider (which must show the logo of the Awarding Body) clearly outlining which trade the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ/SVQ was assessed against
  • An appeal outlining why the applicant is unable to comply with the above options and outlining which trade they operate in along with the evidence to support this.

If you require further support regarding applying for a CSCS card for the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ, please contact CSCS by calling 0344 994 4777, or by using our webchat service.
