New CSCS SmartCard integration announced by Donseed

Published: May 18, 2018

As part of the launch of its new Biometric Identity Workplace Management system, Donseed Workplace®, Donseed has announced a new integration with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

CSCS SmartCards are used throughout the construction industry and contain a chip which stores information on the cardholders’ identity, qualifications and training. The SmartCards are primarily used to certify that individuals working on construction sites have the necessary training and qualifications for the type of work they are carrying out but also, as a result of that, helps to ensure health and safety on construction sites. In addition, the smart technology embedded in every CSCS card allows the cards to take on additional functions which can help your business maximise the many benefits of the CSCS card.

Donseed Workplace® is a Biometric Identity Workplace Management solution which captures a workforce’s data using biometric identification at the point of construction site entry and exit.

It integrates biometric hardware with software which gives construction companies accurate visibility of their whole workforce across multiple sites and projects, allowing managers to access real-time information from projects, set-up automated email alerts for key triggers and advanced reporting on management processes including:

  • Identity, Time and Attendance
  • Health and Safety
  • Training and Qualifications
  • Payroll Management

The Donseed Workplace® integration with CSCS SmartCards works in the same way as contactless payment systems, using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The embedded chip within the CSCS SmartCard allows individuals to hold or insert their card over or into the Donseed Workplace® reader, which then quickly recognises the cardholder’s details and verifies the information printed on the card.

The electronic checks take no more than a few seconds to complete.

With this new integration, Donseed Workplace® ensures that only individuals with the correct permissions and valid cards are granted access to sign-in.

Data from the card and details of where/when it was read are then stored securely in the Donseed Workplace® Customer Portal in the cloud and easily exportable if and when required.

Automated email alerts that are sent when an individual’s CSCS SmartCard renewal is approaching can also be set-up, creating an online training qualification matrix for the workforce’s CSCS SmartCards.

It can also be used with biometric identification for dual authentication when an individual signs-in to Donseed Workplace® or used as a single authentication method when biometric identification is not required.

Gordon Jenkins, Director of Operations at CSCS, said on the new integration with Donseed Workplace®: “CSCS is pleased to see another company making use of the immense capabilities of the CSCS Smartcard system to keep UK construction sites safe for everyone. Companies using Donseed Workplace® can be confident that everyone on site has a valid CSCS card. This ensures that their sites aren’t open to unqualified workers gaining access and potentially putting others in danger.”

Donseed are running a number of free online webinars during May and June to show how Donseed Workplace® works. For dates and free registration please click here.
