Go Smart withdrawal FAQs

Go Smart, either used as a standalone platform or built into existing site access systems was the predominant method of checking CSCS cards at site gates prior to CSCS Smart Check’s development.

Go Smart will be turned off on March 31st 2024 and sites should transition to CSCS Smart Check in advance of this date.

In April 2022, the 38 card schemes displaying the CSCS logo launched CSCS Smart Check to meet Construction Leadership Council requirements.

CSCS Smart Check allows all 2.1 million cards displaying the CSCS logo to be verified using a single interface and is designed to improve the construction industry’s card checking procedures and site safety, whilst also helping tackle card fraud.

Now that CSCS Smart Check is established, CSCS can confirm that its predecessor Go Smart will be turned off on March 31st 2024.

After March 31st, 2024, attempted CSCS card reads via Go Smart will not work.

All existing users of Go Smart who wish to retain a card checking function as part of site induction and/or site access solution must put transition plans in place to move across to CSCS Smart Check as soon as possible to ensure card checks can continue to take place.

CSCS Smart Check allows all 2.1 million cards displaying the CSCS logo to be verified using a single interface, providing employers with a quick, easy and secure way of ensuring everyone has the right CSCS card for the job they do on site.

CSCS Smart Check is available as an API for existing site access systems or card checking equipment, while it can also be used via CSCSSmartCheck.co.uk or downloaded as an app using Google Play or the App Store.

Employers are encouraged to discuss with their technology provider a transition plan to CSCS Smart Check.

CSCS IT partners are able to access the CSCS Smart Check API and build it into existing site access and card checking systems.

Alternatively, sites can use the free mobile CSCS Smart Check app or CSCSSmartCheck.co.uk.

The CSCS Smart Check app can be downloaded free via Google Play or the App Store.

The CSCS YouTube channel also contains a series of instructional videos for how to check cards using the app.
