Applying for CSCS cards
The type of card an applicant can apply for will depend on their occupation and the qualifications they hold. Applicants can use the Card Finder tool to help decide which CSCS card to apply for.

To apply for most CSCS cards, applicants must:
- Provide evidence that they have achieved (or are in the processing of achieving) a nationally recognised construction related qualification relevant to their occupation.
- Email a copy of their qualification certificate or registration to [email protected].
- Pass the appropriate CITB Health, safety and environment [LINK] test.
- Call 0344 994 4777 and pay £36 using a credit or debit card.
When your application has been approved your CSCS card will be posted out to you on the next working day.
Most cards arrive at their requested destination within 20 days of application. Applicants whose card has not been delivered within five weeks of application should contact CSCS. After 90 days an application is considered closed and a further payment of £36 is required to reprocess the application. Full terms and conditions can be found here.
Please note: Individuals applying for a CSCS card on behalf of a friend or family member must ensure that the applicant is present when calling us so they can provide the necessary consent over the phone.
Employers applying for 2 or more CSCS cards on behalf of their workforce can apply using our online Employer application form. Employers applying for a single CSCS card should call 0344 994 4777. Employers do not need their staff to be present when making an application on their behalf.
CSCS cards cost £36 and the separate CITB Health, safety and environment test costs £21.
There are a number of organisations that offer card application services. If you are being charged more than £36 for a card or £21 for a CITB Health, safety & environment test, please check that you understand what additional services you will receive. The cheapest and quickest way to apply for a CSCS card will always be to apply directly to CSCS.
All CSCS cards have a limited lifespan and will expire, most can be renewed.
To renew your CSCS card, ensure that you have passed the appropriate CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years and call 0344 994 4777. Cards can only be renewed within the 6 months before and 6 months after the date of expiry printed on the card. Cards which have been expired for longer than 6 months cannot be renewed and a cardholder must instead apply for a new card based on the CSCS rules at the time of their new application.
