Delivery and training providers

Different training providers and companies may offer different processes and procedures when delivering S/NVQs and this should be ascertained by the individual when first enquiring.

E-Portfolios

This enables candidates to upload pieces of evidence to their portfolio, and access via login on demand.

Recorded discussions or written answers

Another method of completing an S/NVQ is through recorded discussions or written answers, reinforced by items of demonstrative work-based evidence. This can prove the candidate has the right skills and level of responsibility, within their organisation. Much of this can often be carried out remotely.

Site observation

More typically of work-based S/NVQs, site observation may be introduced as a key assessment method, when an assessor can watch how a candidate operates in the workplace and oversees their remit.

Timescales

Enquirers should also ascertain prior to enrolment with a provider the expected timescale of the S/NVQ process. Time-served individuals who have held Industry Accreditation Cards, or who hold historic qualifications, may well be able to fast track the qualification process, while other candidates with less experience are likely to take longer to meet the S/NVQ assessment criteria.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

Many providers also recognise previously achieved construction courses and qualifications. These can be used as APL, and go towards some of the qualification assessment criteria. Rules apply when it comes to judging APL, so speak to the provider to see if they acknowledge the certification, and whether it’s eligible.
