CSCS attending UK Construction Week Birmingham 2025

Sep 05, 2025

CSCS will be sponsoring and attending UK Construction Week at the Birmingham NEC from Tuesday September 30th to Thursday the 2nd of October.

To find out more about how the My CSCS app – your digital skills passport – or how to embed CSCS Smart Check into existing site access systems, come visit us at Stand D110 to speak with one of our team.

CSCS celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and will be hosting two sessions during the course of the conference at the Culture Change and Skills Hub.

Session 1 – CSCS: Digital Innovation and Workforce Competence in Construction – Tuesday September 30th – 10:30am – 11:15am

Earlier this year, CSCS unveiled the new-look My CSCS app – marking a major milestone in how skills and training are stored and shared across the UK construction industry.

My CSCS is more than just an app – it’s your Digital Skills Passport that empowers workers to securely store and share their qualifications, training, and digital CSCS cards. Paired with CSCS Smart Check, it enables instant on-site verification of core elements within the card, helping to ensure the right people are on site with the right skills.

In this unmissable session, Sean Kearns, Group Chief Executive of CSCS, will discuss the impact of the Building Safety Act and the vital role CSCS cards play in building a safer, more competent workforce.

He’ll also explore how digital tools like My CSCS and CSCS Smart Check are unlocking new opportunities in workforce development and future skills planning.

He will be joined by Simon Meyer, Digital Strategy Director at MSite, who will be giving the IT partner perspective on integrating CSCS Smart Check into site operations and how this improves compliance, as well as detailing improvements in efficiency and safety for sites.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insight into how your CSCS card becomes the gateway to the digital future of construction.

Session 2 – Competence in Construction: The Role of CSCS cards and the Digital Skill Passport. Wednesday October 1st – 10:30am – 11:15am

As the construction industry continues to adapt to higher expectations around safety, transparency, and accountability, the question of workforce competence has never been more pressing.

In this thought-provoking panel, chaired by Colin Marrs (Editor, Construction News), representatives from across the industry (see below) will explore how the sector is responding to evolving demands – from site workers to employers and policymakers. The discussion will focus on the practical steps being taken to define, measure, and demonstrate competence across all levels of the workforce.

Key to this transformation is digital innovation. The panel will examine the growing impact of tools such as Digital Skills Passports and CSCS Smart Check — and how they are being used to evidence workforce capability and support the drive for safer, more accountable construction.

Join us for a candid and forward-looking discussion on what competence means in a digital construction era — and how CSCS cards and digital tools are helping to shape the future of our workforce.

Panellists

  • Charlotte Brumpton-Childs (National Officer, GMB Union)
  • Mark Blundy (Group Director Health & Safety, Bowmer & Kirkland Group)
  • Faye Burnett (Super Sector Programme Director, Mace)
