Labouring roles

The CSCS Labourer card is for those in labouring occupations only – not those training for, or occupying, skilled roles on site.

Many contractors and site managers insist on individuals holding the correct card for their occupation, as it shows that the holder has the appropriate training and qualifications to carry out the job.

The Labourer card is valid for two years on first application. Only workers who continue as Labourers can then renew for five years, by providing evidence they are employed in a labouring role.

The Level 1 Award (or recognised alternative) is only required if you are labouring on site and require a Labourer card.

If you’re already enrolled onto, or hold, a relevant qualification for a skilled occupation you don’t need to complete a separate Level 1 Health & Safety course to get a CSCS card. Save time and money by using your qualification or registration – along with the appropriate CITB Health, safety and environment test – to apply for the card that matches your role.
