By Marcus Mills – Fraud Prevention Manager, CSCS Cards
Industry is well versed in being able to verify that a CSCS card is genuine – using CSCS Smart Check via an API, app or website is the only way to digitally confirm that a CSCS-logoed card is legitimate.
Qualification fraud, however, is more complex to root out, as even a genuine card could have been gained via a fraudulent qualification.
CSCS electronically revokes cards when it is made aware of fraud at a test centre, meaning regular checks via CSCS Smart Check will still help keep your site safe and compliant.
However, site managers and safety professionals must stay vigilant.
🤔 Is a worker struggling with tasks that should be second nature for their qualification?
📜 Are stories about their training inconsistent?
🚩 These are practical red flags.
If something doesn’t add up, or you have concerns about a qualification potentially being gained fraudulently, report it.
Qualification fraud can be reported directly to Ofqual while suspected card fraud can be reported quickly and anonymously via the CSCS Smart Check app or emailed to intel@cscs.co.uk.
For #fraudweek CSCS is highlighting its work with Ofqual and CITB – working together to stop qualification fraud. Reporting isn’t about betraying your colleagues – it’s about protecting everyone on site.
