Understanding Social Media Scams

Apr 01, 2026

Social media is awash with adverts for CSCS cards without tests or qualifications, however these are advanced fee fraud scams, where payment is taken but no card is ever sent. These scams claim to offer a way to get a card without requiring qualifications or health and safety knowledge.

CSCS does not advertise our cards on any social media platforms, if you see any ads offering cards without a test than that is a scam. It is important to know that these are all scams designed to take your money.

How these Scams Work

Scammers often refer you from a social media platform (Facebook, TiktTok) or website to an encrypted messenger service, such as Telegram. They will claim that you can get a card without the need for tests of qualifications, but they will require the money upfront. Once you have paid you will receive nothing in return.

There are some instances where you may receive a card. However, when it is presented onsite and your card is checked via CSCS Smart Check it will flag the card as being fraudulent and you will be denied entry to site, and you could face further consequences.

There is no legitimate way to receive a CSCS card without holding an up to date (within the last two years) Health, Safety and Environment test, along with the relevant qualification for the role you do on site.

Why is this important?

CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on UK construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do, helping to improve standards and safety.

By using a fraudulent card, you could be putting yourself, and others, in danger. Many contractors now use CSCS Smart Check to ensure their organisation’s Building Safety Act obligations by providing a quick, easy and secure way of ensuring everyone has the correct card, training and qualifications for the job they do, when your card is scanned it will  identify your card as counterfeit   and you will be denied entry to site.

Report Suspicious Activity

If you encounter adverts or individuals offering CSCS cards without tests or qualifications, or you suspect someone on site is not qualified to do their job, please report it to CSCS via the Smart Check app or by emailing: intel@cscs.co.uk. By doing so, you help protect others from being exploited.

The CSCS Smart Check API can be built into existing site access and induction systems by approved CSCS Smart Check IT Partners, providing verification and valuable real-time insights on the skills and occupational mix of your workforce, along with identifying counterfeit or expired cards. For queries around accessing the API please fill in the form.
