CSCS is aware of the changes announced by CITB regarding training grants and the early closure of enhanced funding for those transitioning from Industry Accreditation (IA) CSCS cards.
The enhanced grants are now available until the end of 2025 – not March 2026 as originally promoted.
We recognise that the short notice of this change is not ideal, but it is important to note:
- CSCS stopped issuing new IA cards in 2010
- In 2019, CSCS announced that remaining IA cards would be withdrawn
- All remaining IA cards expired on 31 December 2024 and cannot be renewed via this route.
This means that IA cardholders who need to complete an NVQ to retain a CSCS card should put a plan in place without delay. While the changes to funding may reduce the timeframe to claim the enhanced CITB grant rate, the requirement to hold a recognised qualification has been publicised for several years.
What IA cardholders need to do now:
- Book your NVQ – Contact a training provider as soon as possible to register for the right qualification.
- Check CITB grant eligibility – If your employer is CITB-registered, they may still be able to claim support towards your NVQ.
- Act quickly – With funding changes now in effect and IA cards already expired, delaying could impact your ability to work.
The withdrawal of IA is part of CSCS’s commitment to a fully qualified workforce, ensuring that skills, knowledge and health and safety standards are consistent across the industry.
We strongly urge all remaining IA cardholders to take action now. Speak to your employer or training provider immediately to secure your qualification pathway and, where possible, access any remaining grant support.
