Before You Apply
Before beginning your application, make sure you have the following:
- A digital copy or clear photo of your qualification certificate or proof of registration.
- A debit or credit card for payment.
- Your CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test pass letter, showing your CITB Testing ID, or an approved alternative.
Please allow 24 hours after passing your CITB HS&E test before starting your application to ensure your test record has been updated.
Step 1: Choose How You Want to Apply
When you’re ready, log in to My CSCS and select one of the following options.
- Upload Qualification
Upload your qualification and confirm your occupation. The system will automatically confirm the appropriate CSCS card for you.
- Select Occupation
Alternatively, you can start by telling us your occupation. Then, add your qualification details – My CSCS will match you to the correct card.
- I’m Registered for a Qualification
If you’re currently working towards a qualification (for example, an NVQ or Apprenticeship), upload proof of registration. My CSCS will recommend the most suitable red trainee or apprentice card for you.
- I’m New to Construction
If you’re just starting out or are on a short-term trial with an employer and have not yet registered for or achieved a qualification, the six-month, non-renewable Provisional card is designed for you as you get a feel for the industry.
Step 2: Confirm and Complete Your Application
Once you’ve uploaded your qualification and selected your occupation, review the card recommendation. Confirm that it’s correct and add the details of your CITB HS&E test or alternative.
Some applications may ask for additional details, such as:
- A Renewal Declaration Form (for Labourer card renewals).
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
If requested, simply upload these documents and check your personal details before proceeding to payment.
Step 3: Access Your Digital Skills Passport
You don’t need to wait for your physical card to arrive. As soon as your application is approved, you can access your digital CSCS card and start building your CV-style skills summary via the My Skills section.
This could include additional training such as SSSTS/SMSTS, Continuous Professional Development or fire safety training.
