What is CSCS Smart Check?

Developed by the CSCS Alliance, Smart Check is the platform to verify all 2.3 million CSCS-logoed cards. It allows employers to instantly confirm that a worker’s card is genuine, in date, and that the holder has the correct training and qualifications for their role on site.

How do I check a CSCS card?

There are three ways to verify a CSCS card using Smart Check:

API – integrate Smart Check directly into your site access, induction, or workforce management systems either directly via your internal teams or using an approved IT Partner. Contact CSCS to find out more about accessing the API.
Free mobile app – download it from the App Store or Google Play.
Website – visit CSCSSmartCheck.co.uk.

Is CSCS Smart Check free?

The Smart Check mobile app and website are free to use. API integration is available directly via CSCS or official CSCS Smart Check IT Partners. For details on cost when accessing directly via CSCS, please complete our enquiry form. Prices from IT partners will vary depending on the company and product in question.

Who uses CSCS Smart Check?

The Smart Check API is used by industry’ biggest contractors, including Morgan Sindall, Wates, Mace, Balfour Beatty, BAM and Vinci, as well as housebuilders such as Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey. The API enables quick, trusted verification of cards while generating valuable insights for employers on the skills mix of their specific sites alongside general workforce trends.

In addition, the free mobile app and website is used widely across industry to quickly and easily ensure a card is genuine.

Why can’t I just look at the card?

Visual checks aren’t enough to spot fake, fraudulently obtained, or revoked cards, meaning individuals without the necessary qualifications or health and safety knowledge for a card may be able to access site. Smart Check is the only way to confirm that a card is valid and that the holder has the qualifications it claims.

Which cards can Smart Check verify?

Smart Check verifies all cards displaying the CSCS logo — that’s 2.3 million cards across the 37 schemes in the CSCS Alliance, including CSCS. If a card carries the CSCS logo, Smart Check can verify it.

Can Smart Check verify digital CSCS cards?

Yes, Smart Check can verify cards held in the My CSCS app.

If using the Smart Check app, select the QR code option and scan the dynamic QR code contained within the card on the My CSCS app.

What information does Smart Check show?

Smart Check confirms whether a card is genuine, valid, and in date, along with the holder’s name, photo, occupation, and qualifications.

Does Smart Check work offline?

The Smart Check app and website require an internet connection to verify cards in real time against the live database. For sites with poor connectivity, the API integration route allows employers to build offline-tolerant workflows independently or with their IT Partner.

How do I integrate Smart Check into my site access system?

The Smart Check API can be built into induction software, turnstiles, and workforce management platforms through an official CSCS Smart Check IT Partner or directly via contractors’ in-house developed software. To start, complete the API enquiry form or visit the IT Partner directory.

What’s the difference between Smart Check and the My CSCS app?

Smart Check is for employers and site managers verifying physical and digital cards held by their workforce.

My CSCS is for CSCS cardholders to apply, renew and access site using their digital card. Individuals can also add additional training records to their My Skills section, such as CPD, Fire Safety Training or SSSTS/SMSTS.

How do I get help if Smart Check isn’t working?
