The ‘CSCS test’ is a common term for the CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test – a requirement for CSCS card applications – but it is owned and operated by CITB (the Construction Industry Training Board) and needs to be booked directly through CITB, not CSCS.

In fact, CSCS does not own or operate any test or qualifications. CSCS and CITB are entirely separate organisations, and the HS&E test cannot be booked through CSCS.

So what does CSCS have to do with it?

Passing the CITB HS&E test, or an approved alternative, is a requirement for CSCS card applications, but the test itself is a CITB product.

In short, book your HS&E test via CITB then apply for your card via CSCS using the My CSCS app.

Will I get my card once I’ve passed the test?

Once you’ve passed your CITB HS&E test, you’ll then need to apply for the appropriate card via CSCS. We’ll check your HS&E test details and your qualification certificate/registration, approve your application and issue the card if everything’s in order.

How do I book a test?

CITB HS&E tests should be booked directly via CITB’s website while the only official place to apply for CSCS cards is via CSCS Online or the My CSCS app. Third party organisations offering such services often include admin fees and other additional costs.
