CSCS improve Academically Qualified Person applications

Published: June 9, 2021

Many who work in construction will be familiar with the CSCS Academically Qualified Person (AQP) card. It’s the card for those who have completed certain construction related degrees, HNDs, HNCs, CIOB Certificates and NEBOSH diplomas.

A recent review of the AQP card identified the need to simplify the application process. The current process requires the applicant to select their relevant qualification grouping. This is causing confusion for some applicants which in turn leads to unnecessary errors and delays with applications.

Angeleen Hill, Scheme Manager at CSCS said: “Feedback from applicants tells us the current AQP application process isn’t as intuitive as it could be. Following a review of the application process it was agreed to remove the complicated list of qualification groupings and to make the process as straightforward as possible for our applicants.”

From August 2021 applicants will no longer need to select a qualification grouping. Applicants will simply need to confirm that they are applying for the AQP card and then select the appropriate qualification from the list provided.

CSCS are keen to highlight that the new process does not impact existing AQP cards. All existing AQP cards remain valid and can continue to be used when accessing site.

Angeleen Hill continued: “We are making this announcement early to ensure there is plenty of time to update our stakeholders before the changes are introduced.”

The quickest and most convenient way to apply for an AQP card is via the CSCS Online application service. If you have not already done so, CSCS recommends visiting www.cscs.uk.com/apply and follow the steps on the screen.
