IOSH launch Safety, Health and Environment course

Published: March 30, 2020

IOSH have introduced a new course called ‘Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers’ which will be accepted for the CSCS Labourer card. Due to the introduction of this course the IOSH Working Safely Course will not be accepted as a recognised construction related qualification for a Labourers card from 31st March 2020.

IOSH Working Safely has historically been accepted when applying for the green Labourer card. It is one of the approved alternatives to the Level 1/SCQF Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.

The decision to no longer recognise the Working Safely course was made because IOSH are replacing the IOSH Working Safely course with the new course named “Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers.”

CSCS will continue to accept applications for the CSCS Labourer card made with the IOSH Working Safely course until the 30th September 2020. This will allow those who have recently completed up until 31st March time complete their application. After the 30th September, CSCS will not accept applications for the Labourer card made using the IOSH Working Safely course.

Garry Mortimer, Operations Manager, said “CSCS’ aim is to ensure that the CSCS card remains a valuable and credible tool in ensuring that construction workers have the necessary training and qualifications to carry out their jobs. We welcome IOSH’s decision to update the qualification to better meet the needs of the modern construction industry.”

Applicants for the Labourer card can continue to apply with the Level 1 Award “Health and Safety in the Construction Environment” or a recognised alternative.
