Published: August 30, 2018
FIS have announced the launch of their #iBuiltThis2018 campaign. This builds upon on the hugely successful campaign launched last year: A visual campaign, image led and run on the competition platform for a period of three weeks. Submissions entries open on 3 Sept and will be closing on 23 Sept with the winners announced at the awards ceremony at the UK Construction Week exhibition on 9 October 2018.
The campaign is designed to get young people, the construction industry and the public to participate and show how proud they are of their contribution to the UK built environment in a fun, exciting and light-hearted way. We would like to showcase construction as the exciting and diverse sector it is with its huge breadth of disciplines and career opportunities to help attract new entrants.
Helen Yeulet, FIS Skills Delivery Director said “this is a part of FIS’ ongoing vision to drive change and a better understanding of the industry and the opportunities within it. Construction is a fabulous and vibrant sector to work in and this competition aims to celebrate the skills, trades and projects that people are involved in building and showcasing their talent in a fun and engaging way”.
To encourage young people to get involved, the competition has been divided into three age groups with some fabulous prizes to be won: 13 and under (family trip to Legoland with an overnight stay at Castle Hotel, 14-18 (an iPhone X) and 19 (a getaway for two adults in one of Canopy & Stars exclusive properties in the UK). We would like entrants to share a picture of themselves with an image of a completed project they have built, or helped to build and enter on the competition platform when it opens on 3 Sept at;

Encouraging photos of new buildings of any type, whether they’re made from Lego, Meccano, sand or even chocolate. Images of iconic buildings and breath taking fit-out and interiors will be used to inspire people to see construction as a career of choice. The entries received will be diverse in both built environment images and the roles involved in their construction and images will be used to educate new entrants afterwards.
Support for this campaign has been phenomenal across the industry with UK Construction Week being media partners. Other sponsors and partners include, Silver Trowel Ltd, Building Heroes, Home Builders Federation (HBF), CSCS, Just Practicing Ltd, Tapper Interiors Ltd, Build UK, British Woodworking Foundation (BWF), The Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA), the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), Construction Industry Council (CIC), Construction Youth Trust, Worksmart Contract Ltd, Saint Gobain, Thermal Insulation Contractors Association – Best Practice in Asbestos Control (TICA-ACAD), Circle Three Consulting, The Construction Coach, Nevill Long and CITB.
A great line-up of judges is being proposed for the competition that will reflect the industry.
Iain McIlwee CEO of FIS said: “the construction industry employs around 3.1 million people, that equates to one in 10 people working in the UK, despite this the perceptions of the industry need to be changed to reflect the diversity, breadth of skills, trades and careers available within the industry. #iBuiltThis2018 competition allows people of all ages to enter and show their building skills and the projects they have built. In doing so we hope to inspire new entrants into the sector and visually show what amazing work is being produced at all levels”.
