New route to a card for welders

Published: March 17, 2020

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed), and Structural and Weld Testing Services Ltd (SWTS) have announced a new route for welders to gain a “Skilled Worker – Qualified Welder” card displaying the CSCS logo.

SWTS are accredited as a Personnel Certification Body in accordance with ISO 17024 to carry out welder approval assessments, by the UK’s National Accreditation Body (UKAS).  This means that SWTS (a full member of SAFed) will now issue approved partner cards displaying the CSCS logo to applicants who pass the SWTS welder qualification approval route.

CSCS Operations Manager Garry Mortimer said: “CSCS is pleased to have worked alongside SWTS to reach an agreement that maintains standards and benefits the welding sector.  SWTS’s assessment route has been approved as an alternative to the NVQ level 2.  This is another example of the welding sector working together to achieve a fully qualified workforce in line with the Construction Leadership Council requirements.”
