Open Doors 2026

Mar 27, 2026

CSCS continued its support of Open Doors this week, with Head of Communications, Matthew Rogerson, joining a group of students from the North East Surrey College of Technology to visit the workshop and facilities of George Jackson – a specialist plasterwork company with a remarkable history dating back to 1780.

During the visit, students were able to explore the company’s extensive collection of reverse-cut hardwood moulds – one of the largest in the world – and gain insight into how traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern innovation.

Open Doors plays a vital role in showcasing the construction industry in an accessible and engaging way. By giving students direct access to live environments and the chance to speak with professionals working across different disciplines, it helps to broaden awareness of the wide range of career pathways available.

Experiences like this are key to inspiring the next generation of construction professionals, helping them to make informed decisions about their future and understand the diverse opportunities the industry has to offer.

Members of the CSCS Operations and Communications team also visited Haringey Civic Centre, a Grade II listed building currently undergoing renovation by Sisk Construction.

The project offers a fascinating balance between preserving historic features and delivering modern upgrades, alongside the construction of a new annex building. It was a valuable opportunity to see first-hand the contrasts between working on an existing structure and delivering a new build.

For those looking to get started in construction, make sure you’re on the right path. Whether as an Apprentice, Trainee, or on an Industry Placement, individuals should begin their journey with a CSCS Red Card.

The quickest and easiest way to apply, renew and access your digital card is via the My CSCS app – your Digital Skills Passport.
